From Romeo and Juliet

I have always admired Shakespeare for so many reasons. His works are
incomparable till today. My first acquaintance with him was the sonnet
Shall I compare thee to a summer's day. Since then, his works have
never stopped fascinating me. This excerpt from Romeo and Juliet
for example, is a sonnet, in a form of a conversation between
Romeo and Juliet after meeting each other for the first time.

ROMEO
[To JULIET.]
93 If I profane with my unworthiest hand
94 This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this:
95 My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand
96 To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.

JULIET
97 Good pilgrim, you do wrong your hand too much,
98 Which mannerly devotion shows in this;
99 For saints have hands that pilgrims' hands do touch,
100 And palm to palm is holy palmers' kiss.

ROMEO
101 Have not saints lips, and holy palmers too?

JULIET
102 Ay, pilgrim, lips that they must use in prayer.

ROMEO
103 O, then, dear saint, let lips do what hands do;
104 They pray — grant thou, lest faith turn to despair.

JULIET
105 Saints do not move, though grant for prayers' sake.

ROMEO
106 Then move not, while my prayer's effect I take.

Should I put 21PL for this post? ;p
Yes, the poem is about Romeo asking Juliet's permission to
kiss her, but I am really amazed with the analogy, as if Juliet
is a shrine, and he is a pilgrim.
Simply amazing and romantic <3<3

PENANG TRIP

Forgive my absence from blogging thses past few days.
It was very busy in school, what's with the marking, remarking,
the trip and duties as the library teacher in school.
But today's post is dedicated sole for the nicest (and most
tiring) 3 days spent in Penang.

Here is actually the pic we took with the very
sweet Syed Syeh's librarians. No other pictures available
because there were no other pics :p
Actually I brought my camera but after we visited
SMSTSSS (the back of their bus was written SOKSEK)
I left my cam in the bus at Bukit Bendera, and
there was an upset in Queensbay Mall, so I didn't
take pictures and the next day we returned to school.
Okay, I'm no photograph savy but circumstances
forced me to not be able to shoot pics.

WHAT I LIKE ABOUT PENANG
-nice places, cheap hotels
-a lot of attractions to visit
-white sandy beach
-Pasar Chowrasta
-Nasi Kandar
-cheap food, if not cheap, they'd give u abundance of it

It was nice. I definitely wanna visit Penang again.

why darling darling?

Maybe some of you were wondering why did I name
my blog 'DARLING DARLING'
Well, it's because I really love a song titled
Shirushi(proof) by Mr Children.
To me it's a powerful song, sung effortlessly
by the lead vocal, it's heart wrenching and
melancholic at the same time.
I really adore the arrangement of the song,
plus it has orchestra-like background,
if anybody knows me, I am an obsessed
classical music fan.
Check out the song and lyric, and tell me
whether you agree with me ;-)

SIMPLY AMAZING! Now, if you'd
excuse me, gotta go find a hanky.. TT

Literal Meaning

so often in literature, students takes a literary
work by its literal meaning i.e. the true meaning.
However, the beauty of literature is that most
works have literal and figurative meaning.
According to englishclub.com,

"We use figures of speech in "figurative language"
to add colour and interest, and to awaken the imagination.
Figurative language is everywhere, from classical works
like Shakespeare or the Bible, to everyday speech,
pop music and television commercials. It makes t
he reader or listener use their imagination and understand
much more than the plain words."

In fact, most of the time we use figurative language
to express ourselves. Yet, when figurative language
is taken literally, the result would be disastrous and
downright hillarious, A case in point:

WHY MEN DON'T LIKE TEACHING

A response to a post by my friend, I personally think
that men avoids teaching because of all the markings
and clerical work involved in the profession.

A research done by NUTP discovered that teachers
in Malaysia generally fill in roughly about 1,000
forms per year-this of course includes

  • before school starts- fill in the students data
  • when school start - prepare and fill in attendance
in the register book daily
-issue receipts for fees once or twice
-mark their exercise daily
- do lesson plans daily
-do handouts for lessons daily
-do paperwork for clubs, trips a lot
-fill in forms for trips sparringly
-prepare exam papers monthly
-mark exam papers (OUCH!!) painfully
- prepare headblowingcounts excruciatingly
-write achievement records/report cards cynically
-write testimonials tiredly
-write referrals smilingly

  • School Holidays -mark major exams' papers like SPM holidaylessly

and those are just what I remember at the time of writing.

Oh, and by the way
I AM MARKING PAPERS NOW LOL

HOME SWEET HOME

I was absent for a few days because I went home to my mom's
house in Seremban. Nothing much happened, only 4 days of
sinful laziness 8D. You see, I always feel like a kid going home
cuz a mother often treats her child that way, and since none
of my siblings is married yet maybe it feels like a school holidays LOL

Well on the topic of nostalgia, I got a pretty interesting email
from my TESL friends and there were these array of awesome
pictures that pretty much encapsulate my childhood years which
is 1985-1991 (which I know, a majority of my students are not born yet )
I'll pick up some of the interesting ones

you're not a kid if u never played with balloons. This small tube
of fun will produce some shiny liquid which you then put on the
tiny straw but you'd have to stick it there and make it spherical
using our tongue, if not the balloon would not come out nicely.
How did it taste? emm..plastiqueky?? Small tubes but loads of
fun. I would spent hours in the afternoon blowing them ;))

A requirement item in school. We had drawing lessons like
once per weekand this panda brand water colours was
really really famous. Everyone in class had them, original
or imitations. Works best when used for making motifs-
you know the art where you carve a star from a surface of
a potato or something creative from let's say a flat surface
of a banana tree shoots, and you colour em
and stamp on the drawing paper. Good times good times :P

I didn't have this because only boys used this. It's a plastic
pencil case with cardboards inserted on the sides. It was
pretty cool for them to use it-I don't know wby but my Along
used it til like when he went to high school. Is it the picture?
who is that?

Yes, we also watched TV. And TV was still new to Malaysia.
I still remember the year TV3 was launched-I was 6 at that
time and it was a pretty much a big event then. BTW we
watched a staple of entertainment from Japan like Satria
Baja Hitam, Ultraman and Gaban. The pic above is perhaps
VOLTRON??

A luxury item for during childhood were these fruity colorful
erasers (we call em rubbers lol) Each was priced at 30 cents
( 30 cents was pretty big. I could get a glass of cold syrup for
10 cents, and a plate of meehoon or nasi lemak for 30 cents)

so enough nostalgia for today. maybe will do another post l8ter
ciao

SHOCKING!! THE REAL REASON WHY SESERI LOST DEBATE

No, the lack of skills nor the degraded content that caused it. It's PURE ATTITUDE. If you've known them as well as I do, well, they are LOCO I hope this serves as example to those who think that skills, brains and beauty play a role in winning anything-It's NOT. It all bolls down to ATTITUDE For proof, look at what the girls have been doing, partying all night without any coherent reasons

Yeah, really MATURE there Irisyah..

CONCLUSION:

I just wanna CONGRATULATE THE ENGLISH DEBATE TEAM MEMBERS (They are the ones
in the pics above) FOR MAKING IT TO THE SEMI FINALS IN HKSBP 09 IN SSP. Though they lost to SMSAH, it's always the journey that matters. As this was the final debate event for Munirah
and Irisyah, I hope the sweet memories of it would last them long long time. As for Allysha, there's always next year :))

I end this post with a sweet picture of Munirah and Irisyah

P/S: you guys know that the first part of this post is a JOKE POST right? :XX YHBT

I wandered lonely as a cloud

"Daffodils" (1804)
I WANDER'D lonely as a cloud

That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,

A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine

And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretch'd in never-ending line

Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they

Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,

In such a jocund company:
I gazed -- and gazed -- but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie

In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye

Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

By William Wordsworth (1770-1850).

Well, I figured out if I am gonna use this blog as a means
of expressing myself, I'm gonna start with one of my
favourite poems EVER. Not my MOST favourite,
that's another post but I wondered lonely as a cloud
sparked my love towards literature.
well, that, Charles Dickens and a certain lecturer
named John Greig. :XX

I have always dreamed that I would go to school and
all I'll be doing is teaching literature. I do still.
It never bores me-not that teaching grammar and
essays are unimportant. No, far by it but somehow
I feel 'full' after teaching literature.
In school now, my favourite teaching matter would
be the Form 4 selected poems and
short stories especially The Drover's Wife.

So here I am, wondering lonely as a cloud :))

NOTES ABOUT THE POEM

-it's about a person who is walking and
sees a field of daffodils
-the daffodils are so beautiful and calming
-he remembers of it often
whenever he's feeling down
-he feels uplifting again

2. look at the structure of the whole poem
-it's like watching down
(from a cloud's point of view) upon
lines of daffodils waving.
That's why certain lines start so far
to the middle, it is to create the imagery
of the daffodils waving <3<3>
