Hormati Guru

Pernah diceritakan tentang Imam Syafie menghormati gurunya.

Begitulah ceritanya. Walaupun terlalu sedikit jasa badwi itu kepadanya, Imam Shafie amat menghargainya dan menghormati sehingga menggelarnya guru.

You Know When Sometimes You Meet Someone Beautiful

I was watching 'Doctor Who' when I came across this beautiful quotation,
told by Amy, The Doctor's companion, about her husband, Rory. She said,

"You know when sometimes you meet someone so beautiful and then you actually talk to them, and five minutes later they’re as dull as a brick? Then there’s other people, you meet them and think: “Not bad, they’re OK”. Then you get to know them… and their face just sort of becomes them. Like their personality’s written all over it. And they just turn into something so beautiful."

Oh. So. True. Tell me about it :P

I love Amy and Rory <3

It's What Dreams Are Made Of

It always happens like this. I would crave for something, or fall in love
with something, and my mom would have the same feeling, or cravings.
This has happened so often I lose count of how many times it occurs.
You see, I don’t live with my mom since Mom and dad moved to
Seremban in 2007. And I’m the type who don’t call my parents if
there’s no emergency (I’m not proud of that really) cuz I was brought
up to make calls only when there’s an emergency. Living with 7 siblings
on a tight budget made one the daughter of a strict family.

And I’m also the kind of person who bottles my feelings cuz I don’t
wanna burden Mom and dad with my problems as they have enough
problems on their plates already. But the thing is, though me and my
Mom were separated for 70km far, we often buy the same things or
crave the same food. NO KIDDING.

Let’s say I wanna buy something and I didn’t tell a soul about it, and
on weekends when I return to Seremban my Mom would have it too.
For example

I fell for this beautiful apple green sieve, and though I can’t bake to save my life, I bought it as a collection, in case, I am suddenly inspired to bake, and then I went home to Seremban, I found out mom bought the similar sieve from the same place!
Lemang and rendang cravings during non-festive season and we both bought them at pasar malam heh
We enjoyed the same drama and fell head over heels on the same hero-TWICE! LOL and I didn’t know mom watched the same drama too
Went to ROMANTIKA shop on different occasion but bought the same plants for our respective houses LOL
The Seremban house would have something that my house has that we don’t know each other has LOL
Last weekends, I had a craving for those dates on branches, so I bought a box for myself. It turns out Mom also had a craving and told my sis about it WEIRD

For your information, my mom and me are as different as day and night..
I mean in temperamental and anything. She’s fierce but very kind,
hard working, creative, and she could do something once she puts
herself to do it. Oh the numerous cakes we ate whenever my mom
tried a new recipe, and even when she’s half blind (yes, she is now)
She managed to learn to sew her own bag made from leather O.O
that’s how impressive she is
Me? Just negate evryhing written about her above LOL

What is this SIMILAR INCIDENTS called? Telepathy?
Shared consciousness? People may dismiss this as “It Runs In The
Family” kinda thing but REALLY?
Or is it The Matrix? Ok j/k

A Mother's Gift

I love this article by Heather Mallick.
It's about Princess Di and her son, The Duke of Cambridge.

I love how the article pays tribute to Princess Di at the eve of her son's
wedding that was supposed to be The Wedding of The Year, if not Century.

I guess those who didn't get to live when the Princess was still alive wouldn't
understand or know how influential she was/is. To me, she's the epitome of
Princesses that none could hold a candle to, not even Kate
(well, maybe Princess Grace can)

my favourite lines from the article is

"But Diana loved maternal hugs. William learned to be a hugger early, and stored them up for the blank years he didn’t know he’d face. He and Kate are physically at ease the way Charles and Diana rarely were, and that was only one of Diana’s gifts to the young woman who’ll marry her son."

Ditto. I agree, there's no love like a mother's love.

In faith, I do not love thee with mine eyes

Original Text

In faith, I do not love thee with mine eyes,
For they in thee a thousand errors note;
But ’tis my heart that loves what they despise,
Who in despite of view is pleased to dote.
Nor are mine ears with thy tongue’s tune delighted,
Nor tender feeling to base touches prone,
Nor taste, nor smell, desire to be invited
To any sensual feast with thee alone.
But my five wits, nor my five senses, can
Dissuade one foolish heart from serving thee,
Who leaves unswayed the likeness of a man,
Thy proud heart’s slave and vassal wretch to be.
Only my plague thus far I count my gain,
That she that makes me sin awards me pain

Too difficult? How about the Modern Text? Taken from NoFearShakespeare

I swear, I don’t love you with my eyes: They notice a thousand flaws in you. Rather, it’s my heart that loves what my eyes despise; despite what you look like, my heart dotes on you. Nor are my ears delighted by the sound of your voice. Nor do I want to abuse my delicate sense of touch by groping you. Nor do my sense of taste or smell want to be invited to any feast of the senses in which you’re the main course. But neither my brain nor my five senses can dissuade my foolish heart from being your servant. My body stands here like an empty shell with no one to control it, while my heart goes off to be your slave and wretched property. I gain one thing from being plagued with love for this woman: The same woman who’s making me sin rewards me with pain.
------------------------------------------------------------------
In simple words,
it's not your appearence that I love, but
I love you and only you no matter what you look

Jikalau Tiada...

Seminggu menyepi tanpa entri baru kerana sibuk dengan
kerja-kerja dunia yang memnag tak akan habis sampai la bersara lol
Tapi saya sempat lagi melayan satu cerita drama Korea sageuk,

Walaupun hidup melarat tapi tetap gentleman. Mana tumpah kuah kalau tak ke nasi...
Serius sedih citer nih. Kesian sangat dengan Chun Doong. Apela
nasib budak tu. Dahla jadi pengemis, kena hina dan kene pukul
selalu. Chun Doong pun suke akan heroin utama citer nih, NDong Nyeo
tapi Dong Nyeo suke kat Gwi Dong. Bile pikir-pikir balik, apesal
la nasib die malang sangat. Rupanya SEBAB DIA
TAKDE EMAK!! Betulkan? Sebab kalau mak dia
masih hidup, mesti ayah dia tak desperate sangat nak cari ibu
susuan. Pastuh kalau emak dia ader, mesti hidup Chun Doong
tak jadik camtuh. Mesti minah bodo tuh tak berani tukar anak
sesuka ati die...

Pengajaran: Hargailah ibu anda. Hidup anda sekarang ini
kerana insan bernama ibu yang berkorban segala-galanya
untuk anda.

MANGA HIGHLIGHTS

Initially I wanted to make a post bashing VK but then I regressed. I’ve stopped reading VK since the lead is  Kaname Kuran not Zero anymore hmmph.. but that’s a different story :)
So I shall rave about the mangas I’m reading, esp about what I like most about them

First up is SKIP BEAT!

OMG NOSEBLEED! Ren was undergoing an inner turmoil that he could not possibly tell anyone, not even the love of his life, Kyoko. So much so, due to being overwork and stressed, he collapsed at his trailer and Kyoko, being the dense that she is, asks if she could do anything for him. And he requests for HER LAP D’AAWWWW…!

Next is Gakuen Alice!

When Mikan was feeling scared and worried because her Tsubasa sempai (her senior who always takes care of her) disappeared during a dangerous mission, who else but Natsume appeared on her window (it's like Romeo and Juliet!) and the HUGGED her because he knew she was crying. But then Mikan said that she was crying more so because she knew how worried Natsume was, and she because Natsume couldn’t cry (yeah, he’s cool like that) she was crying for him OMG FML I wanna love like them!!!! :3

After that  we have Vampire Knight!

There’s something wrong with the whole manga when the best moment is not with the two leads, but of siblings lol (or maybe it’s just me ORZ)  I REALLY REALLY LOVE THIS DRAWING WITH THOUSANDS  FIERY PASSION. Zero visits his twin’s grave and feeling lonely and more inhuman than ever, he lies down on the grave calling him. I cried again. This manga made me cry only when Ichiru died and then again in this one. I mean, pity Zero. He has no one left. His only family, Ichiru is gone and the woman that he loves vows to kill him and him of her, he’s losing his humanity as day passes by, and to live in this wretched world just waiting to lose sanity is… crushing. My heart bleeds for Zero so much that I decided to stop reading VK and just read chapter summaries (and yes, almost all of them is about Kaname bla bla) :(

Followed by Kekkaishi (Barrier-Masters)

This one made me adore Kekkaishi as it is. Tokine reminisces the conversation she had with her deceased father. The little she insisted on following her dad to help him. Her dad of course stopped her by telling her that  ‘he loves her’ in a very touching-teasing way. He calls her nearer, claiming to want to tell her a secret but on her ear he says ‘I love you’ D’AAWWW… You know what? After that, I did this to ALL my sisters and brothers and they hated me for it HAHAHA XDDD Oh just you wait till I have a kid :3

xxxHOLiC

I started HOLiC solely because of this: the dynamic between Doumeki and Watanuki. When Watanuki was pulled into the ‘other’ dimension and he couldn’t find a way out, a ribbon falls for him. He tugs it and comes out of the dimension. It turns out Doumeki was holding to the other side of the ribbon, and had been standing IN the rain for 10 hours. Amazing feat of friendship. Apparently  for a few hours, he had been clawing the ground where Watanuki suddenly disappeared. CLAMP is good, if you know what I mean. Wait till you find out the secret behind Watanuki’s identity.  So far, of all the mangaka, CLAMP is the MASTER OF STORY TWIST…

NEXT UP…
FULL METAL PANIC! More romance than shoujo? BE.LI.EVE. IT.

The Notion of True Love

Darcy and Eliza wub wub

What is true love actually? To love unconditionally, in life and in death?

The answer to that differs in every culture i suspect. I have this opinion, that people, Asians especially (and because I'm Asian, so i can't say anything for western) are rooted in their culture and literature. It has shaped their sensibilities and sensitivities. I have noticed, in my own culture, we tend to have melodramas that end in death-usually stories about regret and redemption. I have yet to see a Christmas movie where people die horribly in the end (even Scrooge survived!)

Romeo x Juliet-the tragic star-crossed lovers

A typical tv movie in my country during major celebrations would involve people dying on their way to celebrate the holidays. I think this is rooted in what is taught to children. When we are in primary school, we are taught to write about something that is used, and in the end, when it has become damaged or lost its usefulness, it will be thrown away-A horrible thing to teach little kids isn’t it?

Desperate love is popular in Japan is because, my opinion purely, of Tale of Genji. Genji is a bishounen (which explains a lot about why bishies are valued there) who falls in love with his stepmother (who looks like his deceased mother). Because that love can never be, he becomes a womanizer. He eventually marries but still pursues his other affairs. He then raises a little girl, Murasaki, who looks like his stepmother and when she grows up, he marries her. Because he still marries another, Murasaki becomes a nun and dies. In regret, Genji too dies. You can see the root of unrequited love syndrome, the obsession towards lolicon and incest in manga.

The Chinese literature carries the story of Butterfly Lovers-a couple who could not marry each other because of difference in ranks and wealth. After the man is beaten to death, his grave is located on the path where the lady's wedding procession would pass through. Upon seeing the grave, it rains and the grave opens, and the lady throws herself inside. The grave closes, and they see two butterflies on the grave. This tells a lot about love in life and death. We could also refer to the tragic stories in Dreams of Red Chamber, Romance of 3 Kingdoms, Journey to the West and the Water Margin.

Lee Mong-ryong is Chun Hyang's 'sabangnim'-i love that word!

Koreans, i suspect has not so tragic love stories like Chun Hyung, who suffers because she refuses the advances of a lord, and as she is about to be executed, his husband arrives and saves her. They also have the legend of the filial daughter Sim Cheong who sacrificed herself for her father and is rewarded with her marriage to the Emperor.

Sita's fate is very sad, really

The same goes for India, I believe the scriptures Ramayana and Mahabrata influence the common sensibilities there you can see its evidence in their movies and if they have their own manga, it would show there too.

p/s: this is a reply i made in a forum about how the notion of love differs. :))

DIFFERENT FOCUS

Men and Women Focus on Different Things
[example: a conversation about Bleach]

my brother: I don't understand why Gin said he doesn't want Rangiku to cry?
Me: cuz he loves her, idiot!
My brother: wha-when?
Me: at earlier episodes, remember they were childhood friends, and when he was caught by Rangiku before he went up the sky with Aizen, even when he could just kill Rangiku easily, Gin let himself be caught.(though he’s waaay more powerful than Rangiku) And when the light from menos covered him, he said to Rangiku,
“I’m sorry, If only you held on a little longer..” That proves it.
My brother: those things happened? Really? I don’t remember a thing
Me: sigh.. ><

[Second Conversation]
Me: IchigoxOrihime pisses me off. I’m more towards IchigoxRukia. What about you?
My Brother: what the hell are you talking about?
Me: I mean, who should end up with Ichigo, Orihime or Rukia?
My Brother: Why must one of them end up with him? They are all just friends..!
Me: They’re not just ‘friends’. Ichigo went through Soul Society for Rukia and Hueco Mundo for Orihime.
He must have feelings for them.
My Brother: Yeah-it’s called FRIENDSHIP
Me: Come on-you want Ichigo to say ‘I Love U’? That’s too direct
My Brother: Yep,what’s romance gotta do with BLEACH. It’s a shounen manga for god’s sake
Me: hmmph

Conclusion: I read BLEACH for the subtleties, interactions and character developments. My brother reads BLEACH for pure action.

Please Love Me

waa... remembrance of time that had passed me by..

bestnyer part "ai wo kudasai.."

lyric translation

In this town
We're the owls who love the dead of night
And, yes, the chameleon who hides his true feelings
The chicken who overslept
And the red-eyed bunny who was up all night
Little more than bats who can get along fine with anyone
Try take a look, I'm sure they resemble somebody you know
Go ahead and look, they just bark at an honest you

Stop, stop, stop stayin'
Stop, stop, stop stayin'
Stop, stop, stop stayin'

The penguin who wants to be a swan
And the sloth I never want to be
The flamingo, who stands firm on one leg through lost love
The overly reserved tarsier
And the snake-charmed tree frog
The hyena who does nothing but bow to the lion and leopard
Try take a look, I'm sure they resemble somebody you know
Go ahead and look, they just bark at an honest you
Hey look, a monkey that looks just like me is pointing at me
I'm sure I'm living off somewhere in the corner

Please give me love, oh... please give me love, zoo
Please give me love, oh... please give me love, zoo, zoo

The talkative myna
Who doesn't answer when greeted
When the mood suits him, he'll even murmur that he's lonely
"I said too much; tomorrow morning
Will be all the more depressing"
I know his feelings all too well
Try take a look, I'm sure they resemble somebody you know
Go ahead and look, they just bark at an honest you
Hey look, a monkey that looks just like me is pointing at me
I'm sure we're somehow alike, same as you and me

Please give me love, oh... please give me love, zoo
Please give me love, oh... please give me love, zoo, zoo

Stop, stop, stop stayin'
Stop, stop, stop stayin'
Stop, stop, stop stayin'
